The Art of Shinkansen

About

The promotion of Japan Railway Central's Tokaido Shinkansen, the iconic bullet train connecting Tokyo and Osaka, included the multifaceted "Art of Shinkansen" initiative. This involved a curated series of 15 GIF animations created in collaboration with both Japanese and international artists. To launch the project and generate buzz, a vibrant pop-up art exhibition was held in the Arts District of Los Angeles, creating an engaging in-person experience.

The Task

With less than two weeks' lead time, the immediate objective was to rapidly generate awareness and drive attendance for the "Art of Shinkansen" pop-up art exhibition in Los Angeles. This time-sensitive task involved swiftly identifying and engaging relevant Los Angeles-based influencers with a genuine interest in Japanese culture to maximize visibility for the exhibition and create initial buzz for the concurrent launch of the "Being Japan" website (www.beingjapan.jp).

The Impact

Facilitated strategic partnerships with Los Angeles-based influencers demonstrating a strong interest in traveling and Japanese culture. Efforts also focused on generating leads and securing mentions to support the website launch of "Being Japan."

The project achieved a successful exhibition opening and established a strong initial social media presence. Key outcomes included:

  • Attendance of 13 targeted Los Angeles-based influencers at the launch event.

  • Significant social media reach, generating 1.3 million impressions.

  • High engagement across platforms, with a total of 70,900 post likes.

  • Substantial visibility through social stories, accumulating 356,000 views.
